Enjoying cuisine in different parts of the world is such a memorable experience. If you love exploring different cultures through food, then we’ve got some suggestions for where you may want to travel to on your next vacation.
Italy
Pizza, pasta, gelato – oh my! Italy is full of incredible food experiences. From markets to hole-in-the-wall local spots to Michelin-starred dining, you can’t go wrong with a culinary experience in Italy. Cities like Florence, Naples and Venice all have food markets that are worth spending a good amount of time at. The Rialto market In Venice, Mercato Centrale in Florence and La Pignasecca market in Naples are bursting with fresh fruit, Italian cheese, vegetables, fresh baked artisan breads and pasta, pastries and local street foods. Amazing culinary delights also await in the vineyards of Tuscany, on the beaches of the Amalfi Coast (think fresh seafood!), and of course, the undisputed best place for pizza, Naples.
France
When you think of France, croissants and baguettes are likely the first foods that come to mind. But there is a lot more to French cuisine, depending on where you visit. Take a cooking class with a Michelin-starred chef in picturesque Provence where fresh, local ingredients are the focus or enjoy a savoury and cheesy fondue meal in the Alps region of France. Lyon is the gastronomic capital of France, and it is known for its rich, heavy meals that aren’t to be missed. If cheese and wine are your thing, then you will want to visit the Bourgogne-Franche-Comte region that produces some of the best wine and cheeses in the world. We’ve just barely scratched the surface here as France has so many different regions and cuisines to discover.
Thailand
Thai cuisine is universally enjoyed with its most famous dishes being noodle dishes like Pad Thai and Pad Siew. Thailand not only has stunning beaches, floating markets and beautiful temples, it has a great food scene too. If you’re in Bangkok, you must sample all the street food that is found along Khaosan Road, but you’ll also find street food markets no matter where you’re staying. Not only is it delicious, but it’s also inexpensive. If you travel to the stunning island of Phuket, you will experience culinary fusion that can’t be found anywhere else in Thailand. Food here is influenced by the Chinese as well as by India and Malaysia. Phuket cuisine isn’t like other Thai food, but it is worth eating.
