Travel insurance is especially important in today’s world where your trip may be cancelled or interrupted or, in case of unexpected illness or injury. The cost of having insurance protection is very small in comparison to the cost of an unexpected medical emergency in a foreign country or the cost of cancelling your trip. Manulife’s Premium Protection Plan is their most comprehensive policy available and offers more coverage with less restrictions.
Designed for residents of Canada who are age 69 or younger, the plan offers coverage for: trip cancellations or interruptions, emergency medical services, baggage loss or damage, baggage delays, flight accidents and travel accidents. The policy is for those traveling for a maximum of 23 days, are covered with a provincial health insurance plan, and must be purchased within 72 hours of any deposit made on your vacation.
Cancel for any reason?
One of the most attractive features of the Manulife Premium Protection Plan is the “Cancel For Any Reason” benefit. Ultimately, there are more reasons that ARE accepted than are NOT. Acceptable reasons include: starting a new job/position, inability to get time off work, the weather forecast is not desirable, or, you simply change your mind. If you cancel for one of these reasons, you are eligible for 75% of the non-refundable trip cost 7 days prior to departure, or 75% refund up to a maximum of $1,500 6 days to 24 hours prior to departure. You may also be eligible for a 100% refund for reasons such as: your surgery date is rescheduled, a destination wedding is cancelled or a family member or friend becomes ill.
Emergency Medical Coverage
In addition to cancellation/interruption protection, Manulife Premium Protection Plan also offers Emergency Medical coverage of up to $10 million as well as Flight Accident (up to $250,000) and Travel Accident (up to $50,000) coverage. Emergency Medical expenses covered include accidents, injuries, unexpected illnesses, medical, dental, ambulance, air evacuation and more. The policy also includes StandbyMDTM, a worldwide medical concierge service that provides telephone access to a qualified doctor who can assess your symptoms and provide treatment options. A medical questionnaire is only necessary if you are aged 60+.
What’s not covered
Cancellations, interruptions or medical emergencies not covered by this benefit include a medical condition, event or circumstance you were aware of at the time the policy was purchased, or a loss or medical condition contracted in a foreign country when, before the departure date started on your confirmation the Government of Canada issued a ‘Non-Essential Travel” or “Avoid All Travel” travel advisory. There are other exclusions for medical coverage that we would be happy to provide more information about, such as participation in certain high-risk activities, self-inflicted injuries, and a medical condition for which future investigation or treatment was planned before you left home.
Baggage delays, loss and damage are also included in this comprehensive policy as well as missed connections and flight assistance offering variable coverage for flights delayed more than 3 hours, 6 hours, or if the flight is totally cancelled.
The comprehensive Manulife Premium Protection Plan is only available through your travel consultant. Contact us today and we will be happy to provide more information and help you secure peace of mind when booking, and before and during your trip.
