TYPES OF CRUISE TRAVEL

Cruising is an exciting choice for families or a group of friends with a wide variety of interests as there is something for everyone to do every second of every minute of the day. We break down the types of cruise travel below to help you make an informed choice on which cruise best suits your lifestyle and budget

Cruise lines have thought of every last detail to make your vacation the best it can be.

It is our pleasure to match your wishes with the cruise line that will exceed your expectations, from ultimate cuisine, to favourite activities and exciting experiences.

Ocean Liners

Few vacations can match the value of a cruise. Many of the greatest, most intriguing destinations in the world can be explored on a cruise vacation. From sparkling coastal towns to picturesque villages and Europe’s iconic landmarks to serene, secret, island lagoons, cruising provides the opportunity to be comfortably transported to a myriad of famous destinations across the globe. Unpack just once and enjoy a different adventure every day, with mostly everything included in one up front cost. Your stateroom, entertainment, food and transportation to each destination are all included, while shore excursions, specialty dining restaurants, upgrades, spas and gratuities on some cruise ships may be extra. Whether you are budget conscious or extravagant, seeking relaxation or excitement, a cruise vacation offers something memorable for everyone.

The On Board Experience

While you are transported to intriguing destinations world-wide, you can choose from a broad range of activities and amenities, which vary by cruise line and by ship. Gain fascinating insights from guest lecturers, enrichment classes and be entertained by spectacular shows. Spend quality time with your significant other, while your children learn and play in the supervised kids’ area, and the older children have a blast in the ship’s teen centre.

There are also multiple dining venues, swimming pools, movie theaters, ice skating rinks, and health and spa facilities, to delight all interests and age groups. Cruise lines have also taken the quality of dining to new levels of sophistication, with celebrity-chef-inspired menus and sommeliers to help you select the perfect wine pairing to bring out the best flavours from mouth-watering cuisine. Accommodations range from luxury suites with private balconies to affordable inside staterooms.

Here is a sampling of the cruise lines that you can choose from, each offering their own distinct styles and experiences:

River Cruises

Today’s river cruise experience is nothing like the historic tales of paddle wheel steamboats on the Mississippi, though you can now do an updated version of that! Modern river cruise ships traverse major waterways across the globe creating a boutique luxury cruise experience, a relaxed pace of travel, and access to authentic local culture. Unlike a large ocean cruise ship, most river cruises offer all exterior cabins, featuring large floor to ceiling windows or balconies. But it’s not just your room that’s different, river cruises include daily guided shore excursions as well as wine, beer and other drink options at lunch and dinner, and spend most of their time in port docking in the heart of historic cities and small villages along the river.

Selecting the right river cruise for your style comes down to four primary choices: the season, the river, the cruise line, and the cruise ship.  That’s where it can get more complicated since there are hundreds of river cruise ships and dozens of itineraries to choose from that change each year. Which is where our experienced and well-traveled team can help.

Why Choose a River Cruise?

  • Smaller ships with fewer passengers provide a more intimate and relaxing cruising experience.
  • Stunning scenery 24-7.
  • Boutique hotel style accommodations and amenities.
  • More inclusions for one price, such as shore excursions and specialty dining.
  • Dock in exciting port cities and historic charming villages.
  • Explore beyond coastlines and get closer to the heart of your destinations attractions and local culture.
  • Rich itineraries covering the most popular destinations worldwide.
  • Theme cruises—Such as culinary, wine, holiday markets, wildlife and active adventures.

Expedition Cruises

Expedition cruising is like traditional cruising, but more emphasis is placed on the excursions, ports of call and the shore experience. Expedition cruises offer a taste of adventure to off-the-beaten-path and remote destinations. You will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with unique ports of call, their flora and fauna and breathtaking natural environments.

What sets expedition cruising apart are the unique itineraries, smaller ships, and specialist destinations. Expedition ships are designed to transport you to less-visited ports and scenic wonders that cannot be reached on land.

Exotic destinations include Antarctica, Iceland, Alaska, Greenland/Iceland, The Galapagos Islands, Norwegian Fjords, and the Arctic, among others.

Expedition cruising is an adventure like you have never experienced before.

Why Choose an Expedition Cruise?

While traditional cruises place more emphasis on the entertainment and experiences on board led by the cruise director and staff, these ships are led by an expedition team. The team often includes biologists, historians and photographers who share their knowledge by way of on-board presentations and lectures as well as guided shore experiences.

Expedition ships offer a more intimate experience as the vessels are much smaller, usually accommodating no more than 500 people, and most often under 200. They can anchor in smaller ports, sail as close as possible to shore and many have reinforced hulls for sailing in icy waters. You may travel by Zodiac to shore for a hike to visit wildlife sanctuaries, view icebergs, see extraordinary animals and learn about local cultures.

If an enriching, intimate, and memorable experience is what you are looking for, an expedition cruise will not disappoint.
